It is with utmost pleasure and enthusiasm that I am recommending Mark Boquist as a personal chef and caterer.

For over five years, Mark has prepared nutritious, delicious, and varied meals for my family of four, including my two preteen and teenage daughters. Mark created menus that were consistently creative, invariably tasty, and met all our dietary restrictions. He shifted seamlessly when last minute dinner guests were added to dinners and always left us well supplied with extra food for midnight snacks and even breakfast! Mark has also catered numerous events for us during this time period, including sit-down dinners for a dozen or more, buffets for larger gatherings, and cocktail parties complete with passed hors d’oeuvres and specialty cocktails. He also prepared holiday meals for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Passover, and Rosh Hashanah gatherings. All of these events have gone off seamlessly and scrumptiously. Many of our friends have been lucky enough to share in the bounty of Mark’s cooking, and they have been universally impressed with his culinary skills and his professionalism.

On a personal level, Mark’s long-lasting relationship with our family and his presence in our home during holidays and parties and life-changing events (like the presidential Election of 2016) have given me a window into Mark’s character as well as his craft. He is consistently reliable and conscientious, never cuts corners, is always calm and in control of his kitchen, yet he is also friendly and warm. Mark is a truly lovely human being, honest and kind and patient and sensitive.

If one word could describe him, it would be ‘reMARKable’! He brought his stunning cooking skills and made our vacation in The Hamptons a 5-star inclusive experience.

Before we could have come up with our meal plan, Mark prepared a lunch and dinner menu for each day with regards to everybody’s dietary restrictions and tastes (our party had 15 people including children). We decided not to change anything because it already sounded fantastic. And it couldn’t have been more amazing, from the variety of the dishes to the flavors that he presented with each meal - it was incredible. We were all indulging ourselves with second rounds at the table, we were unable to resist. He also prepared snacks for us between the meals that we could eat at the beach or when we were just relaxing in the house. Every dish tasted different, you just can’t get bored of the flavors and spices. He purchased the best meat, fish, vegetables and fresh fruits, we did not have to deal with the shopping either. And the top of the cream is that every day he left the kitchen cleaner than it was before he arrived.

I am a founding partner at JnD Events NYC and have worked with Mark on several occasions. We handle everything from small discreet private dinners to large celebrations. I first worked with Mark in the fall of 2014 for a private client, an executive at the Carlyle Group. The event, in the client’s Manhattan home, was challenging and demanding. ...as COVID calmed a bit in New York, it became apparent that with testing and extreme caution I could do a pared down version of what I’d hoped. Mark told me of rigorous health and safety protocols he was following ... he wasn’t kidding, it was like hazmat-level safety. So, I proceeded to plan an intimate dinner party in East Hampton instead of the larger affair I’d originally thought.

Mark has, each time we’ve called on him, taken all of our food preferences into account. For this occasion I think there were four different diets he had to work with. For all of the occasions I’ve worked with him, he has designed ambitious menus that bring into account everything we discussed, with a great variety of complex flavor profiles and simple ones, too.

From a culinary standpoint, his creations would have me eating at his restaurant weekly if he had one. From an execution standpoint, the soul he adds to the food is something you can’t learn anywhere – he delivers the rare combination of sophistication and soul.
